Rapid mixer granulator , working principle, components and its types

 

Rapid mixer granulator plays vital role to mix the ingredients and make granules before compression. For wet granulation, choppers and impellers are mainly responsible in rapid granulator. Rapid mixture granulator works on agitation, tumbling. The impeller is responsible for uniformly mixing wet granules, and the chopper helps in a break or reduced particle size. At the starting process or during binder addition, the impeller and chopper generally operate at low speed. Then after the formation of wet mass, they are operated at high speed to make the desired granule size.Chopper is designed at the lower side of RMG, which helps break down a large mass of granules into tiny granules (kneading). A chopper is used whenever required and operated at a speed of 1440-2880 rpm. The chopper does not have any advantage on the size of granules when the impeller speed is high( about 200 rpm)

Impellers: At the bottom of the dome shaped stainless steel bowl Impellers are fixed with two half-length blades and two full length blades.This impeller helps you to break the wet mass into small pieces and granules.impeller rotates in an anti-clockwise direction

Chopper: Chopper has very sharp small blades which are specially designed to cut the wet lumps of material into very small parts which are then mixed by impellers. It is located at bottom of the dome and the size of the granules is totally depends on the speed of the chopper.

Discharge Port: Discharge port is used to unload the container filled with granules. It is located at the bottom of the dome. Opening of discharge port is operated by pneumatic cylinder, a compressed air regulated cylinder.

Mounting : A hard M.S. channel has been used to keep the drive assembly at the bottom. Stainless steel staircase and railings are provided for the platform with a bowl mounted on the top. Half of the platform has been covered by S.S. and dimpled Plates.

 

The Endpoint in Rapid mixture granulator:

A simple method for detecting endpoint are:

·         Take wet granules in hand and close the fist, then open and break it throughout the thumb, called a banana breaking method.

·         Ampere load method ampere load on the impeller and chopper is displayed on PLC with amp unit.

 

Types of RMG

Based on the shape of the mixing bowl the RMG is classified into

·         Dome type

·         Conical type

·         Circular type

Dome Type Rapid Mixer Granulator

Dome type rapid mixer granulator is an equipment which is having dome shape of mixing bowl. And all the process of mixing, grinding and granulation takes place in this mixing bowl.

Conical type Rapid Mixer Granulator

The conical type of rapid mixer granulator is known by its conical shape of the mixing bowl. And all the mixing process takes place in this conical type of mixing bowl.

Circular type of Rapid mixer granulator

Circular type of rapid mixer granular is called due to its circular shape of mixing bowl. All the mixing processes and grinding processes take place in this circular type of mixing bowl.
